Get More Out Your Beach Holiday

A windsurfer on calm water

We all love heading to the beach on holiday. For some that is all they want to do! And why not? Maybe your idea of the perfect beach holiday is one where you do nothing but bask in the sun with a good book. Maybe you can be tempted to get into the water to cool down but that’s it! Others might want to do something more adventurous on or in the water. So here are a few suggestions to get you active.

Paddleboarding or Surfing

Probably the easiest way to get out onto the water is to grab a board and get out there. Stand up paddle boarding has taken over the world. It’s particularly great when the water is calm, so a big surfing beach in Australia is not going to be ideal. Going out on an SUP is also better at the start of or towards the end of the day when the sea breezes have died down. It’s also a pretty good way of exploring a lagoon. Your vantage point on the board is unrivalled. A trip to the Pacific Islands such as Fiji or Samoa could be a great place to try this sort of activity.

You can surf from Cornwall in the UK to California, Hawaii and Byron Bay in Australia and a thousand places in between. Unless you are a seasoned surfie, it makes sense to hire a board. If you are feeling nervous, then it’s easy to book a few lessons. Make sure you get a hearty breakfast and hit the waves. Once you are up and standing you'll be having a ball in no time. And surfing is like riding a bike, once you get it, you won’t forget it.

Snorkelling and Diving.

Getting into warm tropical waters is a must when you travel to an exotic destination. Often the undersea life is amazing and the best and easiest way to explore it is with a snorkelling mask. Any island destination in warmer climes will give you the opportunity. Check out the Andaman and Nicobar islands travel guide for some great Indian options. These are a cluster of Islands in the Bay of Bengal. You can get brilliant snorkelling opportunities anywhere from Indonesia to Thailand. The Great Barrier Reef is a world famous destination.

If you like the idea of going a little deeper then you could consider taking some diving lessons! Many resorts will offer you the opportunity. Look for a PADI registered center for a professional experience. Dive centres will kit you out and get you started with everything you need. They will start you off in the pool or in the shallows. You’ll be taught basic safety procedures and underwater signals. Once you are out, and surprisingly quickly, you’ll be seeing the world from a great new perspective. Those still on the beach won’t know what they are missing!

From sailing to sand yachting and from windsurfing to kite surfing there is a beach activity to get to you out there. You can try your hand at beach fishing. Alternatively, you could sign up for a deep sea fishing trip. You are sure to catch something! Whatever takes your fancy, choose the type of activity you’d love to challenge you, and get exploring.
