6 Telltale Signs that Indicate a Pest Infestation

Having a pest infestation is no fun. Through no fault of your own, pests can sometimes set up camp in your home and not want to leave. This can make your once cosy home smelly and unsanitary. If you are unsure whether you have pests, look out for these telltale signs:

  1. You Have Dead Bugs in Your House

If you’ve noticed a few dead bugs, this could be a sign of infestation. If you continue to find dead bugs of what appears to be the same species, they more than likely live with you on your property. Of course you may also find live bugs. Thoroughly check in the kitchen, bathroom, and other places live bugs may be hiding.

  1. You Find Pest Droppings

Pests don’t think twice about leaving droppings in your lovely home. If you find suspicious looking matter in your home and you aren’t sure what it is, consider researching pest droppings online so you know what to look for. If it seems that the matter you are finding does indeed belong to pests, you should call out an exterminator in Charlotte NC ASAP. They will be able to locate where your pest infestation is and get rid of it for you. This will more than likely inconvenience you, but you can’t share your home with pests for too long!

  1. Nasty Smells

Pests can give off distinctive smells when they are living in the home. Bedbugs may have a musty, sweet scent for example. Mice usually smell of urine, while rats smell like ammonia. If you’re suddenly noticing strange smells in the home that weren’t there before, this could be a sign.

  1. Strange Sounds

As well as nasty smells, you might suddenly notice strange sounds. If you have rodents, you might hear the delicate pattering of their feet. You may also hear squeaking, scurrying, and gnawing. Bugs will be harder to hear, but you might be able to if you listen extremely closely.

  1. Holes and Marks

Noticing sudden holes and marks in your property might indication an infestation. Little rodents enjoy gnawing on just about anything, so if you can find marks like this, it’s a big indication of an infestation.

  1. Damaged Plants

If you take pride in your garden, a pest infestation might mean your plants take a sudden change in appearance. They may look damaged and chewed. Even your grass might look different to before. Take a close look and see if you notice anything suspicious.

To prevent an infestation as best as possible, you can try the following methods:

  • Don’t leave food lying around.
  • Keep a lid on your garbage and move it outside as soon as you can.
  • Fix leaking pipes and appliances.
  • Keep your home as clean as possible.
  • Don’t leave clutter lying around.
  • Vacuum regularly.
  • Regularly check pets for infestations and get them seen to ASAP.

Hopefully you haven’t already got an infestation. If you have, contact an exterminator ASAP, then take preventive measures regularly. Don’t let those pesky bugs invade your home!
