Just Another Christmas Tale

      She was, staring at the Christmas lights which seemed to be singing and dancing on the tiny leaves of the tree. It was almost Christmas. "What about Christmas?" she mused. As if on cue she heard a familiar tune from way back when. A Christmas love song that's what it was. She pulled the edges of the sleeves of her sweater wanting to cover her cold hands. She was getting cold.

            Everything around her was getting cold.  The chocolate drink beside her on a coffee table suddenly brought her back to her senses. The smell of cocoa goodness and the warmth of the mug surpassed the wave of chill that was starting to conquer her senses.  Yet she didn't touch the drink, just stared at it and let out a sigh. She counted to keep her mind busy…one, two, three, four, five she was close to cheating on herself and moving on to ten yet somehow she managed to wait. She has been waiting for such a long time now that every second, every tick of the clock was agony.

            Someone told her, a fortune teller that's what the woman was that tonight as the clock struck twelve she will meet someone, and that would be him. Him who will love her with all his heart; give her flowers and chocolates and a diamond ring.  She was honest enough to admit to herself that yes, she secretly hoped the woman was right; that indeed such a man exists. And so she waited for what seemed like forever. Kids sang Christmas carols from afar. The gaiety everywhere she looked kept her breathing regularly as she momentarily lifted her right hand to touch her cheeks.

            The snowman, the gingerbread house, the baby in a manger the lanterns kept her company. Then the doorbell rang. She hesitated. Stood then sat again. Stood then sat again. Two long buzzes, three, four....her heart was pounding. The doorbell stopped making a sound. Not the slightest noise could be heard after. She wondered whether she truly stopped breathing or it was her mind again playing tricks on her. The memories came in massive blows, the ones that flooded her thoughts before she decided not to open the gate. And yes, the memories were painful.

            She smiled as finally she rose again and this time she determinedly walked away from the chair. She found her way into her kitchen where it seemed dark. That stunned her because she remembers very well leaving the lights open. Running her hands swiftly on the walls to find the switch she heard someone cry. She lurched and screamed and jumped in succession.

            When she regained her composure and looked for the source of the loveliest sound she has ever perceived, at a corner of the room, she found what seemed to be a tiny basket and a baby was in it. Suddenly all her cares, all the mundane things that bothered her all her wishes for company and more wealth vanished.

     As she stared into those little eyes which came from somewhere she didn't even know her heart for the first time in many years beat with glee. It was as if it was new and she was never hurt or abandoned. She took the baby in her arms and allowed all the love in the world to fall from her eyes in the form of tears. She has always wished to become a mom yet no man ever walked into her life and chose to stay.

     It was Christmas day and she received the best gift she could ever imagine. The gift of a life to nurture; to feed with the enthusiasm of charity; to offer to the Lord with all humility; to bring her back to life knowing that she may never have everything in the world but she will always have, the unconditional LOVE of GOD which she will teach her heaven-given child.....

It is almost Christmas, are our hearts ready to send out life's most precious gifts?

To forgive;
To love unconditionally;
To wash our brethren's feet;
To live in simplicity;
To spread the good news of Salvation
and to do just that
not just on Christmas
but all the days of our lives.....

thank you for your time

  10. akala ko regal shocker sort of story, hindi pala but a very heartwarming and inspiring tale. you have wits with playing words, as if I am reading a narrative poem. Indeed, God always bring surprises into our life - be it good or bad. But the good thing is. He always listen to our prayers. Maligayang Pasko po at nawa'y higit ka pang pagpalain ng Diyos.

  13. This is a such lovely story to remind us the true meaning of Christmas, to share the love unconditionally. As human, we might think it's hard but when we are blessed with a child, loving without expecting in return seems easy.
    Have a Happy Christmas.

    The woman is indeed blessed to have such a blessing. Perfectly timed so that her Christmas won't be a lonely one. Now she gets to nurture a little angel without expecting anything in return.
