4 Reasons Why Greenland Should Be On Your Bucket List For 2016

Greenland is a mysteriously beautiful place, packed full of history and culture. It’s a winter wonderland of stunning natural beauty and is an ideal destination if you’re looking for a unique travel experience. Nothing really can compare to the sights and activities situated here. Even though it is only home to around 60,000 people, there are so many things for tourists to see and do. Here are just a few reasons why you should be adding Greenland to your bucket list.

Hot Springs

Even though it is predominantly covered in snow and ice, Greenland also has numerous hot springs. The most popular being the ones located on the island of Uunartoq, which can reach an average or 98 and 100 degrees Fahrenheit all year round. So no matter what time of year you choose to visit you’ll find the temperature suitable for a long hot soak. While you’re soaking in this giant tub, you can look around at the surrounding landscapes and realise how mesmerizing it is in real life. It won’t feel right feeling so cosy and warm while you’re surrounded by snowy mountains, making it an incredible experience you must try.

Northern Lights

Seeing the Aurora Borealis in Greenland is a highlight for almost every tourist that comes here. It’s something that not everybody gets a chance to witness, as it’s difficult to know when it is going to happen. Between the months of September and April are the best times to see the Northern lights. They consist of yellow and green lights that fill the night sky, but they have also been known to turn red and purple also. Seeing the lights is an opportunity not to miss out on and you’ll never forget witnessing such an incredible natural phenomena.

Icebergs

We all know what an iceberg looks like but the pictures are nothing compared to seeing them up close. Northern Greenland is home to some of the largest icebergs on record. You can take a tour to see the icebergs in all their glory by boat. You’ll be surprised how large they actually are. South Greenland also has smaller icebergs for tourists to visit and explore. You’re also likely to come across some arctic wildlife on your tours which made a great bonus. Exploring caves and seeing something so peaceful is definitely something you have to do while you’re here.

Helicopter Tours

If you’re a thrill seeker and love nothing more than going on an adventure, a helicopter tour is for you. Greenland offers many different helicopter flying tours for you to try out. You’ll get a fabulous bird's eye view of the landscape and you can choose which areas you want to see. These usually include the glaciers and hot springs which look amazing from the air. You'll get a different perspective and realise just how beautiful Greenland is.

Greenland is full of surprises and I hope these 4 reasons have made you want to visit even more. There is nowhere else like it in the world and if you’re fortunate to go you’ll never regret it.
