As the seasons change, it's time to do some spring cleaning and give your home a refreshing new look after the winter. During the colder weather, we have our doors and windows closed more often, turn the heating up, and perhaps get a little lax on regular cleaning around the house. Plus, the wintery weather can result in a less than pristine house exterior, and it can even drive pests inside. There are lots of jobs that you only need to do once or twice a year, and the beginning of spring is the perfect time to do them. Start preparing for brighter weather by doing these essential cleaning and maintenance tasks.

Wash the Windows

The wind, rain and snow of winter have no doubt left your windows looking grubby. There might still be more rain to come, but now is a good time for window cleaning before spring truly gets underway. You can wipe the windows with a glass spray from the inside, but the outside pains are a little trickier. You might be able to clean them a bit from inside, but you're likely to need a ladder for access. It's best to hire a professional who can carry out the job safely.

Check for Pests

The cold weather of winter can drive pests like mice into your home. After all, your home is much warmer than it is outside! You should look for any evidence that unwelcome guests have made themselves at home in your house. If you can hear scratching noises, it could be mice, rats, squirrels or other rodents that a Castle Rock pest control company could deal with. You might attempt to deal with them yourself, but experts will know the best way to get rid of them. If you're worried about using humane methods, you can find a service that does that too.

Dust and Clean Your Blinds

Blinds can be terrible for gathering dust and dirt, and a pain to clean. You probably try to dust them now and again, but once or twice a year you should give them a proper seeing to. If you have wooden blinds, give them a quick wipe with a little bit of wood cleaner. You can take aluminum blinds outside to give them a proper scrub and even hose them down, before drying them to prevent rust.

Clear Out the Fridge

No one enjoys the task of cleaning out the fridge, but you need to do it periodically. You should do some tasks often, such as immediately wiping up spills and cleaning out old food. But every few months you should empty it and wipe down the interior. To make it a bit easier, try doing it shelf by shelf.

These are a just a few things you can do to celebrate the changing of the seasons in your home. You could also put on some bright new bedding, deep clean your carpets and rugs and ensure that your wooden floors are protected. Make sure you have plenty of cleaning supplies to tackle all your tasks.
