All Wrapped Up: 3 Of The Best Christmas Gifts For Her

The whole Christmas present thing can turn into a bit of a nightmare, especially around about now with the big day fast approaching. And why is it the biggest problem spots are the people who should be easy? Mum, sister, girlfriend, you ought to know what they want, right? Wrong. If you’re anything like me, you trawl the shops searching for inspiration that never comes and end up panic buying something she has to pretend to like come Christmas day. Well, not this year! Here’s a list of three great gift ideas for the women in your life to make the whole thing just a little less stressful.

  1. Jewellery

As gift ideas for her go, this one is a complete cliche. Still, the old ones are often the best. Of course, it depends on your relationship as to what you’re going to choose. There’re lots of little heartfelt jewellery gifts on the market for Mums and sisters. Bangles inscribed with poignant phrases and beautifully worded thank you’s. For significant others, you might have to dig a bit deeper. Don’t choose earrings for a girlfriend unless you want disappointment on Christmas day (the case looks a lot like a ring box all wrapped up). Opt instead for something simple, a necklace or bracelet, are a safe bet. Whoever you’re buying for, take a moment to consider the kinds of pieces they normally wear. Some women will wear exclusively silver or gold whilst others like big statement pieces. Make sure you get it right, jewellery is an awkward thing to return or re-gift, and it’s too expensive to never wear.

  1. An Experience

The world is your oyster with this one, which makes it a great choice for the girl who has everything (read, awkward to buy for). For the princesses, there’s tailor made choices like photo shoots and complete makeovers. For the adrenaline junkie, you can take your pick of skydives, racing car drives and pretty much anything else you can think of. A pamper day at a spa or champagne and canapes in a hot air balloon make a great gift for Mum.

If you don’t fancy going down the shop bought route, why not make your own experience package. The only real limit is budget here. If you fancy splashing out why not plan a city break for the weekend or a night out at the opera. For a more conservative gift (that’s sure to get you just as many brownie points) take her to a surprise location for a picnic. Obviously one for when the weather warms up; a mysteriously worded gift card now will keep her guessing until then.

  1. Gadgets

Last but not least we have the best, biggest and easiest category. That’s because it gives you lots of scope. At one end of the spectrum we have the beauty gadgets, foot spas, hair straighteners, automatic exfoliators (yep, that’s a thing). These are all a safe bet for Mums, sisters and the high maintenance type. At the other end of the spectrum, we have fun and novelty gadgets. Not the kind of gift with any longevity, these are guaranteed to raise a smile on Christmas day. Think miniature arcade games that run off the USB and remote control aeroplanes you fly from your phone. Yes, they were designed for men. But as every girl will tell you, boy’s toys were always way more fun than Barbies.
