I Just Created A Snug And Here's How You Can To

After getting bored of using my spare room as somewhere just for storage, I decided to transform it into a snug. I wanted to create a space that could be used as somewhere to chill out, listen to music or immerse myself in a book.

Yes, I could've used my living room for that, but with my TV and laptop in there, I would end up getting distracted. Plus, I like the idea of having a room in my house that is just for relaxing in, which is why I created a snug.

Want to create your own snug, here’s how you can do it:

Choose a color that relaxes you

While some colors are more relaxing than others, it’s up to you what color you want to paint your snug. Pick a color that you love, it doesn’t matter what color, just as long as it relaxes you.

Once you have chosen the color that you want your snug, the next step is to paint it. You can do this yourself, or you can hire a decorator to do it for you. If you choose to hire a decorator to do it for you, it shouldn’t be too expensive, especially if it only needs one coat of paint.

Invest in book shelves

I invested in two bookshelves for my snug; I used one for storing books, and the other for using to display bits and bobs. I love reading, so that’s what I wanted my snug for, but what you choose to use yours for is up to you.

I love reed diffusers, so I used one of the bookshelves to display a couple of lavender-scented ones. I chose lavender because it is a scent that promotes calm and relaxation, so I thought it would be ideal. However, you can choose whatever scent you like.

Make it as comfortable as possible

A snug should be comfortable, well at least that’s what I think, anyway. To make my snug comfortable I choose to invest in a couple of foam bean bag chairs - these are great to relax on. I also put a chest in the corner of the room with extra blankets in, so that they are easy to reach, should I fancy a nap.

I chose to add a sofa bed to the room as well, so that when guests visit, I have somewhere for them to stay. I could put them downstairs, but a snug seems like a much nicer space for guests.

Add a docking station

If, like me, music helps to relax you, adding a docking station to your snug is ideal. That way if you fancy listening to some calming music, all you have to do is plug your smartphone or IPad into it.

As well as using your docking station for calming music, you could also use it to play audiobooks if you aren’t a big reader. I love to read, but I know that not everyone does.

To create the perfect snug, follow the simple tips in this guide. Creating a snug is the perfect way to transform your spare room into a great space.
