Strumming my new Strings

Finding good quality strings may pose a challenge to the neophyte banjo player. To choose between different gauges is definitely mind boggling. I took a look at ghs banjo strings at Musicians Friend the other night and started the task of deciding whether to get  light gauge or medium gauge banjo strings. I guess my final decision rested on the sound and feel of the strings. Medium gauge banjo strings are stiffer and give a distinct sound, but do not have much sustain up the neck. Light gauge strings likewise have their own distinct sound and give a quick response. I decided to purchase a set of both light and medium gauge strings. They are practically inexpensive and having string sets with different gauges can enable me to "personalize" my banjo. It was one happy "eureka" day for me.
