Ease Your Pain

Being in pain sucks. Not only does it hurt, but it can render us incapable to do the things we love, whether that be running, painting or even just getting to work every morning. The good news is, whether you suffer from chronic pain or you’ve just suddenly started to experience an unpleasant situation, there are several things that you can do to get relief from your pain moment to moment. Here are some of the most effective:

Do a Little Exercise

It may seem counterproductive, but doing a little exercise everyday can get your body pumping with pain-blocking chemicals that will make you feel much better. Activities that are easy to do when you’re dealing with pain include walking, swimming, yoga and dancing. You don’t have to exercise for long, just make sure you do a little every day, and you’ll start to see results.


When you are struck down by a sudden pain, it is often instinctive to start breathing more shallowly, but all this does is make you feel panicked, confused and dizzy. Instead try taking long, slow deep breaths, counting each one as you breathe in and out. This will help to calm you down, relax your muscles (which will help to relieve pain) and take your mind off the agony somewhat.

Try Counselling

Pain isn’t just physical. It might start out that way, but after a while, anxiety and depression sink in and you start to make your pain worse by dwelling on it and not doing the things you know will help you to manage it. Seeing a counsellor, then, could help you to work through your pain-related issues, find a new way to manage and cut down your suffering significantly.

Whether it’s really worse or it just feels that way is anyone’s guess, but it may well be the later because many people suffering from chronic pain have also found that doing something to distract themselves from the pain really helps to diminish its power. Finally, but perhaps most importantly of all, when you’re dealing with pain, you should always take the time to relax. Meditation, hot baths and guided imagery have all been shown to help with pain, so make sure you free up some tie in your schedule for relaxation and do whatever you can to keep the worst of that pesky pain at bay!
