Moving Home With Kids: The Stress-Free Way

Moving house can be a very stressful experience. And if you have young children, that experience can be ten-times as stressful! But there are, thankfully, some simple ways you can make the move a lot easier on you and your family. Here are some hacks to help you have a stress-free move, even if you have kids in tow!

Childcare

The best thing to do is to see if you can get someone to look after your kids for you while you move house. This can be a family member or friend. If no one can help you out, think about hiring a childminder or babysitter for the day. This will get the kids out of your hair. If you don’t have anyone who can look after the kids and can’t afford childcare, try to plan the move for during school. This will give you a few hours to get the main moving done without the children around.

Hire Help

It is always a good idea to hire a removalist firm to give you a hand. This is also extremely useful if you can’t hire a van for whatever reason. The removals company will come and pack up all your boxes and suitcases into their van. They’ll then take them to your new home and unpack the van for you. They’ll even carry all the heavy furniture to and from each house, saving you a lot of heavy lifting!

Give The Kids Jobs

If your kids are bored, they are likely to get cranky and will only stress you out even more. Try and keep them occupied by giving them some small jobs to do. The jobs can be as easy as just packing items into boxes. If you have older children, they can be given a bit more responsibility. The jobs and tasks can keep them occupied for a couple of hours.

Don’t Unpack Until The Removal Men Are Finished

You should aim to arrive at your new house before the removal men do. This will give the kids a chance to explore the empty property and get excited about their new home. But don’t let them unpack all their stuff just yet. Not until the removal men have got all the furniture inside. Imagine if a removal man steps on your son or daughter’s favorite toy while carrying a heavy sofa? That won’t go down well and could end in a lot of tears!

Relax With A Takeout

After you’re all moved in, you probably won’t feel like cooking dinner. In fact, you might not even have any food in your new home! So why not treat your family to a tasty takeout meal. It is a no-hassle option, and your kids will love the treat! Spend the evening relaxing with your family with a takeout in front of your favorite movie. It’s a great way to unwind after moving day!

As you can see, moving with kids doesn’t have to be so hard. Follow these steps to make it super easy!
