The Ultimate Guide to Skiing Vacations

If you’ve never been on a skiing trip before then you are seriously missing out. There’s something so exhilarating about rushing down the white slopes of a mountain. It’s not just the skiing that’s good fun, however. There are plenty of activities that go on throughout the days and evenings too. You may have heard of the famous phrase, Apres-Ski. This is just another part of what makes a skiing vacation something truly special. I’ve put together this ultimate guide, to help you get the most out of your new adventure.

Pick a Place
The first thing you’re going to want to do is pick where you want to go. There are so many different ski resorts and destinations, it can seem like a bit of a minefield. I’ve put a list of some of the best places to visit, on your first skiing vacation.
  • St Anton, Austria - This is one of the most famous skiing destinations on the planet. Mostly because the majority of visitors are celebrities or royalty. If you don’t mind taking a trek over to Europe, then St Anton is a must-visit.
  • Banff, Canada - On the opposite end of the scale is Banff. This isn’t somewhere you’d sip champagne during an apres-skinner dinner. Instead, you’ll be surrounded by wildlife and an incredible Canadian Rockie lifestyle.
  • Vail, Colorado - Often dubbed as one of the finest ski resorts in the world, this resort has it all. Find Vail activities and plan a Vail vacation at GetawayPlanners. Just a quick browse of what is on offer will show you why it’s such a renowned skiing holiday destination.
  • Lets Gets, France - Perfect for a beginner's skiing getaway. Again, if you don’t mind the travel time to Europe, then it’s really worth checking out Lets Gets.

Learning to Ski
You have two options when it comes to learning. You can either have lessons at an indoor snow sports center before you go. Or, you can wait until you get there! Every ski resort will have instructors on hand to show you the ropes. Sometimes it’s more fun to learn on real snow, than in a center. However, you could eat into a lot of vacation time if it takes you a while to pick up. Perhaps have a few lessons to grasp the basics, before you go. Then use an instructor to hone your skills when you’re there.

Equipment
The only thing you’re going to need to take with you is clothing. Everything else can be hired when you get there. Before you head out, take a look at the resort website to see what their hiring prices are. You’ll be able to rent out skis, snowboards, and boots. This will save you a fortune in extra luggage on your flight as well.

Apres-Ski
It’s a term that’s famous all around the world. Apres-Ski simply means after skiing, which is exactly what it’s all about. So many people go on this kind of vacation just for the evening entertainment. When you’re finished on the slopes, it’s time to hit one of the many resort restaurants for dinner. It’s like one big dinner party, with all the resort’s guests. There’s then plenty of bars, discos, pubs and other entertainment options that go on late into the night. It’s all part of the fun, so make sure you check it out.

Skiing is such an enjoyable experience for the whole family. If you’ve ever considered it, now is the perfect time to bite the bullet and go. I promise you’ll soon be addicted.
