Dress Down but Look Great: It Can Be Done!

A lot of women often worry about looking dull when dressing down. I’m here to tell you that this doesn’t have to be the case! You can dress down, but still look great by using a few of my tricks. Enjoy!

Be Confident

The first step, before you even get dressed, is to be confident. Confidence will always shine through, in any situation. If you feel confident, everybody you come into contact with will be able to tell.

Wear Quality Clothing

Quality clothing always looks significantly different to cheap clothing. I like to look for ethical clothing from companies that care. It doesn’t have to be expensive, necessarily. You can read lots of reviews online that will give you a good idea of what the best brands are for quality clothing.

Wear Colors That Suit You

Do you know which colors suit you? You should! Different colors suit different skin tones, hair colors, and eye colors. Know the colors that make you glow so you always look amazing. You don’t want to look washed out!

Wear Simple Makeup and Hair

When dressing down, it can be easy to neglect makeup and hair. By applying simple makeup and making sure your hair is tidy, you’ll still look pulled together but not overdone. Here are some tips:

  • Use a tinted moisturiser.
  • Curl your lashes.
  • Wear a clear lip gloss with SPF.
  • Add a bit of color with bronzer, if you need it.
  • Brush your hair and apply dry shampoo, if needed.

Don’t Wear Clothing That is Too Big or Loose

There’s a difference between dressing down and wearing clothing that is totally unflattering. Just because you’re dressing down does not mean that you have to wear loose clothing, and clothing that doesn’t flatter the figure. You can wear certain loose/oversized pieces, but make sure you pair them with something that balances them out. Skinny jeans with an oversized jumper, for instance.

Add Interest

You should still add interest to your dressed down outfits. Wear different textures and layers to add depth and interest. This will stop you from looking dull! Patterns and color can be used too, but make sure you match carefully to avoid looking garish.

Accessorise

Don’t forget to accessorise! Just because you aren’t going all out, doesn’t mean you should forgo the accessories. I love playing with my accessories! Wear a necklace, a watch, some rings, some bangles...anything you think the outfit needs just to enhance it. Don’t wear too much jewelry at once though, as you run the risk of looking trashy. Try to stick to a metal that suits you best too. Rose gold, silver, or gold? You can mix metals, but you need to be smart with it. You can also wear jewelry made from cotton and beads for a more casual look.

I bet once you try these tips, you’ll wonder how you ever managed without them. Whether you’re doing the school run or the weekly food shop, use these tips to perk up your style and feel great about yourself!
