Animals: 7 Amazing Reasons To Get A Cat

When considering what type of pet to get, you might want to take some time to consider getting a cat. Often neglected, in favour of the more popular dog, cats make wonderful pets. There are plenty of reasons to get a cat, not least that they are cute and cuddly. A cat will be there for you through the hardest times in your life. They will never judge you. They will always love you and always be there for you. If you're not quite convinced, then you might need a few extra reasons. Here are seven amazing reason that you should get a cat today.

1. Having A Cat Reduces Your Stress Levels

If you have a hectic life and are always running around doing endless chores, you might think a cat is a bad idea. You may assume that having a cat will be an extra stress to add to your list and that you could do without an extra mouth to feed. In fact, owning a cat could reduce your stress levels. Various studies have shown that people who own cats (and sometimes dogs, too) lead less stressful lives. The theory behind this fact is that when we stroke a furry animal, this acts as a type of therapy. The love and affection you will get from your cat will reduce your stress levels and make you happier in your day to day life. In some old people's homes, they use pets as a form of therapy for treating depression and anxiety. Having a cat around the home will get rid of your stress.

2. Looking After A Cat Is Simple

Owning and looking after a cat is not as difficult as it sounds. There are a few things that you must do to make sure that your cat is safe and well, but other than that cats are quite low maintenance. You should make sure that you sign your cat up to the vet, such as www.365vet.co.uk, straight away. The vet will be able to tell you how best to care for your cat. You don't have to spend hours on end caring for a cat as you would a dog. Cats like their space and will come to you when they want affection.

3. A Cat Is A Constant Companion

No matter how you're feeling or where you are, your cat is a constant companion. Cats form significant bonds with their owners. In the past, experts have suggested that the bond between a cat and its owner is like that between a child and parent. That means that your cat will be loyal to you throughout its life. He or she will always care for you. Whilst partners may come and go, your cat will be the one constant theme in your life. You can never be lonely when you have a cat. There will always be someone to welcome you home after work. There will always be someone to curl up on the sofa with you and watch TV. There will always be someone to sleep next to you in bed at night. A cat is always there for you.

4. Cats Are Better For The Environment Than Dogs

Everybody knows that owning a dog is bad for the environment. The amount of natural resources you use in taking care of a dog add up over the years. Owning a dog could be as damaging to the environment as owning three family cars. Cats do not take up as many resources as dogs do. Owning a cat rather than a dog decreases your carbon footprint and ensures that you are not harming the environment. By choosing to get a cat, rather than a dog, you are making a conscientious decision.

5. Cats Clean And Bathe Themselves

With many animals, you have to do all the hard work. Animals such as rabbits and dogs need you to clean and groom them all the time. Further still, animals such as rabbits need you to clean out their hutch all the time, which can turn into a pain fast. Cats are different. They don't need you to clean them. Cats are smart animals and will spend much of their spare time grooming themselves. Cats take great pride in the way they look. Just look at how a cat holds itself; cats are strong and proud in their stance. If you choose to own a cat then, you will not have to waste lots of time cleaning them as they will be more than happy to do this themselves.

6. Broken Hearted? A Cat Can Help

If you have just broken up with your partner then, it might be time to get a cat. It's not tragic to get a cat as a replacement for love. In fact, it is a natural thing to do. There are many cases when people have reported that their cat helped them to get over a breakup. The affection that a cat gives you when you look after it well is beautiful. Often what hurts the most when your breakup with someone is feeling alone and like nobody cares. When you have a cat in your home, you will no longer feel that way. A cat will replace the love of your partner and show you that someone out there cares about you no matter what.

7. Cats Are More Independent Than Other Animals

Cats are independent, and so don't need a lot of your attention. If you are relaxing around the home, you will find that your cat won't bother you. At the most, your cat will come and curl up next to you whilst you're chilling out, but they won't demand attention. So long as you feed and look after the health of your cat, he or she will do the rest. Cats like to go out and explore the world. They make entertainment for themselves. Many animals, such as dogs, are needy and demand constant attention from their owners. Cats are far more independent than dogs, so they won't cause you any trouble.

  1. well you have hit a soft spot in my heart, i have had cats most of my life and the last 2 lived 16 and 17 years. Some of the care for cats depends on how you want them, a barn cat will clear the barn of vermin, but not need so much care and will not be as "cuddly".
My cats have always been indoor/outdoor cats and most have been Siamese offbreads. This means they take protecting you and your property very seriously. They cab bond with dogs, clear vermin and even protect any chickens you might be raising (my last cat killed a raccoon protecting some chicken). Ferocious (fought off a pit bull), but very, very gentle, desiring affection often.
