THE VEIN

He sat there
Oblivious
Probably thinking,
or so I thought
Of the next heavy load to hurdle
A thing he carried in the past
Will carry again in the next unfading hours

Today he is here
Tomorrow again
Will there be change?
Will there ever be hope?
I wonder as I pressed the shutter
Ashamed of my presence
Forlorn that I could not as much as fathom

Why hunger embraces
The less fortunate of my brethren
In a country left in ruins
Simple dreams, simple happiness
Why must it be too fleeting?
Why have you left? The country needs you.
Here, right now, not tomorrow when the veins of our fellowmen could have already bled too much in sorrow….
