Tough Stains? I Aware You, 10 Weird Tricks To Remove Them

Stains. Laundry. These two always go together. There are a lot of reasons why doing the laundry is not just a chore; it's a challenge especially if you have kids in the house. Most stains are removed by washing or rinsing the clothes but some are more difficult and may require special attention and care. And you think you already know the things you can use to remove stains? Well, you may know some but there are still some more ways of removing stains which are not so common and may even surprise you. Plus, most of it are found right in your kitchen.

Here are some of the common and not-so-common (or even weird) ways to remove stains.

1. Freeze it - good for gums; sweet, but tough on clothes

- Harden the gum by putting the garment in the freezer for an hour. Make sure to put it in a plastic bag first.
- Check if you can crack the gum after an hour. Be careful if you're using tweezers as this may pull out threads especially garments made of wool.
- Use grease remover carefully for last traces of stain only if it is necessary.

2. Milk - it's good for the bones and ink on clothes too!

- Ink on colored clothes can be removed by soaking in a milk bath overnight.
- Wash as usual.

3. Toothpaste - not just good for your teeth but another way to remove ink or lipstick stains

- Apply a small amount of non-gel toothpaste on the stain and rub the garment vigorously together. This may remove some of the ink or lipstick.
- Repeat process until the stain is gone.
- Rinse and wash using fabric softener.

4. Shampoo - shiny hair, clean collar

- Put some shampoo on the stain around the collar as this will soften body oils.
- Rub fabric together.
- Rinse and wash as usual.

5. Cola - refreshing even on blood stains

- For blood smeared on garments, soak them in a basin with cola overnight for best results.
- Wash and rinse in cold water.

6. Hot water - great for coffee or tea but removes oils too

- Soak the affected area in hot water (the hotter, the better) to slowly remove the oil.
- Repeat as necessary then wash and rinse.

7. Lemon juice - rich in vitamin C and best for rust stains

- Take juice from one or two lemons and soak just the stained area for an hour. This will neutralize rust.
- Dab juice on the stain if needed then wash and rinse.

8. White Wine - good for after-dinner, even good for stains

- Pour some white wine on the spot while the stain is still wet to dilute the red wine's color.
- Blot the affected area with a dry sponge while sprinkling salt to completely remove the stain then rinse.

9. Vinegar - savory on salad, tough on beer stains

- Use 1 part of white vinegar to 5 parts of water as a solution.
- Sponge solution on the beer stain then rinse and wash as you normally do.

10. Ammonia - not just to wake you up but to remove make-up stains

- Best to soak in a weak ammonia solution (5 ml weak ammonia to 5 ml warm water) for 5 minutes.
- Repeat until stain comes off.
- Rinse well in water as hot as the fabric allows.
