Kissing The Sea

It ached for her to look forward. No it was agonizing to even raise her head. They were there. Yasmin was unsure at first because everything looked hazy yet something about the way the man flipped his fingers made her sure it was him. They were there, and she could feel her chest being stabbed and torn into pieces. She wanted to walk away, to run as fast as her limbs would endure yet she just stood there immobilized, hurting and wanting to just die. She couldn't help but glance though at him smiling from the corner of her eye.

He was wearing the same thing, a shirt that had that familiar print from long ago. The girl whose face she could not put a name to was fumbling with something caught in  his arms and as she turned away she heard him laugh in unison with her. She stifled a groan as she shifted her weight and fell on the ground "argghhh," whimpering and using all the stamina she had left in her limp, wilted, injured soul she rose then gathered her things which fell on the ground. Scurrying towards the park exit she felt cold hands clasping hers almost shivering. The hands felt familiar like a volt of electricity traveling from her wrist to her brain and down back to her fingers. Then there was that voice which called out her name in the loveliest manner she could fathom. "Yasmin...Yasmin...." She was so rattled, everything felt surreal that in the confusion of it all she could feel her chest almost to the point of rupture. She swallowed hard and felt the dryness of her throat that no sound came out of her mouth the moment their eyes locked. He was there, it was really him standing before her clutching her hands calling out her name staring at her like he always did a long time ago...not wanting to blink not even to breathe to keep time standstill. It took her several minutes to regain her senses. "An....drew..." as she spoke rivers of tears seemingly fell from her eyes and her lips quivered.

How long she waited for this moment she could not remember. Five years, ten years...forever....Then she managed to slide her hands to his face to that part she remembers loving most, his angled cheeks that had a dent on the side when he smiled."I tried looking for you but you were nowhere to be found...believe me Yasmin I almost died searching for you..." Andrew spoke to Yasmin in between sobs holding his chest. Her hair blown by the wind, her dawn colored lips made him vividly remember everything that happened in the past and all the regret and pain of losing her because of his lack of determination and will power clutched his being like one huge wave. "Andrew!," a determined, frantic calling came from behind him. The other woman, Alicia  looked at them with a quizzical look, raised eyebrows and clenched teeth.

"What are you talking about? Who is she!?," the other woman demanded a reply. Yasmin simply looked at him, baffled still yet with the same tender eyes he loved and searched for for years. A ghastly look was painted on the other woman's face as she saw Andrew's begging posture holding Yasmin's shoulders as everything dawned on her. Yasmin was the woman Andrew called out each night when asleep. This was the woman who held him back each time she demanded him to tell her how much he loved her. She felt it each time, a certain pause in his words, a certain slight movement of his head like he was thinking of someone else. And that painting of the setting sun on his chest beside his huge scar with the letter "Y" deeply tattooed whose story he never opened up to her made her conclusions unmistakable. Alicia's entire being shook yet she could not define what it was she felt...anger? desperation? pain?  Contrary to what Alicia expected she could do she was frozen. She simply stood there listening to Yasmin and Andrew's silent speeches. A spot on their faces were the same like paintings created in heaven and the moment she called out Andrew's name again and he didn't respond she knew she lost the battle. For one last time she looked at Andrew and realized she never truly knew him at all. She was surprised to find peace and love for herself in her heart after a lifetime of doubts. Finally she knew what she was longing for and it was the simple truth that Andrew never loved her at all.

The sun was almost setting. The sky was the color of blooming roses. As Alicia walked away and turned her back Andrew and Yasmin's bodies drew closer together and in between their lips the sun went down to kiss the sea while Alicia's heart sang with gladness at being at last...FREE.....
