3 Essential First Date Tips For Online Daters

If you’re one of the millions of singles who have ventured into the world of online dating, then you know how it feels to go on your first in person date. You’re nervous and excited, and your only wish is that things work out for the best. After all, getting a second date is much harder than getting a first date, so you need to make sure you’re on your A-game.
There are tons of things to keep in mind when you’re approaching a first date. But as we all know, once you get there, it’s easy to throw caution to the wind because you’re nervous. However, you shouldn’t let your nerves or expectations get the best of you because that’s just a recipe for disaster. To help you out, we’ve created a list of the three most important first date tips for all our fellow online daters. Check them out below!

1. Make Sure Your Date Isn’t Hiding Anything

The last thing you want is to start dating someone who’s been hiding pertinent details about their past. Unfortunately, online daters tend to fib (a lot) in order to make themselves seem more “appealing.” The most common things people lie about are age, previous marriages, and criminal history.
Obviously, details like this are extremely important, and while they might not be deal breakers, you definitely want to know what you’re getting into when you schedule that first date. Luckily, there’s an easy solution; all you have to do is look up your date on a site like You’ll get a background report that will tell you right away if they’ve been dishonest about their past.

2. Take It Easy On The Booze

Alcohol has long been referred to as social lubricant, or liquid courage due to its ability to bring out your fun and uninhibited side. Sure, that may be true, but there’s a time and place to let loose, and a first date is not one of them. On your first date, you want to be 100% yourself, and if you’re downing drinks, that’s just not possible.
Your judgement will be skewed, and there’s a good chance you might just make a fool of yourself. We get it; first dates can be nerve-wracking and somewhat awkward, but what do you expect? You’re meeting a potential love interest for the first time, so you should just embrace the “getting to know each other” process rather than hiding behind a drunken facade.

3. Avoid Super Serious Topics

Like we said above, first dates are a time for getting to know each other. You may have sparked up a few conversations online, but until you meet face to face, it’s hard to really get a good idea of who your date is. During your first date, you should keep the conversation topics lighthearted and fun, rather than rigid and serious.
Avoid topics like religion and politics; not because they’re not important, but because those conversations are better left for the second, third, or even fourth date. If you treat it like an interview and start firing heavy questions at your date, chances are they’re just going to get overwhelmed by your intensity (and possibly quite annoyed).

  1. Happy New Year! Wish you all the best for 2014! :)

  2. never want to use online dating because of the lies that are to easy to make(been a white hat hacker and know the lies) and since i have a distinctly different way of life, it in of itself would keep me "unattractive" to most people (and know i won't lie about being a part of a spiritual/Christian community to people as it defines me).

Thank you so much for visiting. God bless you and your family always.
